Hello all-
I’m in New York work-shopping a musical. I’m still not at liberty to say much about it and I definitely can’t share music from it yet, but I did want to send out a glimpse of my more musically theatrical side. It’s a song I wrote in 2019 that didn’t make it onto Temple (justifiably so, as it didn’t go thematically go on many levels) but it is steadfast in my heart as my first conscious swing at writing with (at that point completely hypothetical) theater in mind. The scene is roughly.. the end of the world. We have courted collapse and brought it raining down upon ourselves. And I wrote this in 2019!
*Character voices include a narrator, a chorus of mere mortals and a chorus of angels
** I’d just watched Angels in America, then read it, and was at the time of recording reading The World Only Spins Forward, an oral history on the making of Angels in America. I guess I was, as my girlfriend likes to say, on one.
So I wrote this musical-ish- type song on a lark and then 3 years …
